Alvin Martinez

Alvin Martinez has a strong passion for music education and student success. He is a versatile musician, performer, and educator. Mr. Martinez is currently the Mariachi Director at Holmes High School and performs as a trumpeter and vocalist with Mariachi groups in San Antonio, TX.

Throughout his career, he has instructed students ranging from beginners to collegiate members across the United States and Latin America, including the University of Texas at San Antonio, Winston Churchill High School, Taft High School, CC Winn High School, Harlandale Mariachi Academy, Costa Rica Trumpet Academy, Banda Comunal La Fortuna, and Turrialba IET Marching Band, among others.

As the Mariachi Director at Burbank High School, he led the program to UIL State. Mr. Martinez studied under Jose Hernandez of Mariachi Sol de México and Elmer Churampi of The Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He has taught various marching bands and Mariachi programs in San Antonio ISD, Harlandale ISD, Northside ISD, Northeast ISD, and Eagle Pass ISD, providing instruction in trumpet lessons, Wind Ensemble, and serving as the Visual Consultant for the Winston Churchill Charger Band.

Mr. Martinez has a strong affiliation with Drum Corps International (DCI). He was part of the Brass Staff and educational outreach for the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019 and performed with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, where he began his career as a performer. In 2019, he helped Banda Comunal La Fortuna achieve their first performance at DCI SoundSport, winning multiple awards, including Best in Class. As of 2024, he has joined the Brass Staff of the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, further cementing his role as a leader in the DCI community. He has also written drill for several marching bands in Latin America, performed at various Drum Corps and WGI competitions.

An active educator and adjudicator, Mr. Martinez works in Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, and the United States. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Mariachi Campanas De America, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Currently residing in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Martinez continues to educate and inspire students of all levels. He completed his Bachelor’s in Music Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2019.
