Eganam “ÉGO” Segbefia
Eganam “ÉGO” Segbefia is a New York City–based trumpet soloist whose artistry transcends traditional musical boundaries, seamlessly blending classical, jazz, contemporary, and popular styles. Known for his expressive lyricism, commanding stage presence, and ability to forge genuine connections with audiences, he has established himself as one of today’s emerging crossover trumpet artists.
ÉGO first captured the attention of New York audiences as a member of MTA’s Music Under New York program, performing throughout the city’s subway system beginning in 2015. Those early performances laid the foundation for a career that has grown from the platforms of Grand Central Terminal to some of the world’s most distinguished stages and international events.
In 2025, ÉGO became the inaugural winner of the New York Knicks’ That’s NY Talent Halftime Entertainment Competition, earning featured performances throughout the team’s historic playoff run at Madison Square Garden. He also serves as a United Nations Ceremonial Bugler, performing for heads of state, ambassadors, and international commemorative ceremonies. His career has included appearances as a soloist at Carnegie Hall and performances at many of New York City’s most iconic cultural and civic venues.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, to Ghanaian parents, ÉGO immigrated to New York City at the age often after his family was selected through the United States Diversity Visa Lottery. Navigating a new language and culture, music became both his refuge and his voice. Introduced to the trumpet through after-school music programs and Drum & Bugle Corps while growing up in the Bronx, he discovered an instrument that transformed personal adversity into artistic purpose.
ÉGO earned a Master of Music degree in Classical Trumpet Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where he won the prestigious Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from South Carolina State University, an educational foundation that continues to shape both his performance career and his commitment to mentorship.
Whether performing for thousands in an arena, on the concert stage, or in an intimate setting, ÉGO approaches every performance with the same artistic conviction: music should move people, tell stories, and create lasting human connection. His warm, vocal approach to the trumpet and his versatility across musical styles have made him a sought-after performer for concert presentations, cultural celebrations, civic ceremonies, and collaborative artistic projects.
Equally passionate about education, ÉGO presents clinics, masterclasses, and workshops foraspiring musicians, encouraging them to pursue excellence with discipline, curiosity, and authenticity. Guided by his personal motto, “Inspiration Without Perspiration is Hallucination,” he believes that meaningful artistry is born through unwavering dedication, continual growth, and a commitment to serving others through music.
